Teaching

Teaching it forward

Since2022

Teaching funds the PhD: the University of Tulsa pays me to teach, hold office hours, and grade, every semester. I started early. I TA'd Intro to CS at Hendrix College one semester after taking the class myself, as a freshman.

These days I build courses about as much as I run them. I co-developed a Foundations of Machine Learning course with TU's AI and ML faculty, and I'm helping lead a new one.

As Scholarship Chair of my fraternity chapter (Nov 2023 to May 2025), I set up tutoring, a homework database, and weekday study hours. The house GPA rose half a point in one semester.

Community means two things here. The open-source one: what I ship should be documented well enough to clone and reproduce. And the local one: Tulsa now, Arkansas roots.

I'm helping lead the creation of it. I'm not teaching the high schoolers, though: I'm teaching their teachers, with a train-the-trainer workshop for the high-school teachers who will run the class. The build behind it is the part I enjoy: an LLM-assisted generator that makes the slide decks and the material around them (handouts, entry and exit tickets, teacher guides). A harness, for education.
